Holiday Trimmings

With the holidays fast approaching, we thought we’d post a mood board of sorts. Whether your decorating taste finds excitement in the natural neutrals, shiny silvers, or the tried and true, red and green, remember texture, layering, thoughtfulness, and the one unexpected piece that pulls the whole look together.

Happy Holidays!

Steve Wiman at Front Gallery Houston

Some exciting news is that Uncommon Objects owner, Steve Wiman, will be showing at Front Gallery, in Houston, TX, on November 10 through December 22. Steve’s medium of found objects and materials are a textural and visual treat, and this show promises to be one not to miss!

Here is a link to Front Gallery’s page regarding the event.

Also, Steve is featured as a friend and ally to the LGBT community in this month’s issue of L Style/G Style magazine! The magazine can be found for free around the Austin, Houston, and Dallas area, and Steve’s article can be found online here.

Yay Steve! Till next time…

Halloween

Halloween is just around the corner (in a little over a week!), and you’d desperately love to decorate for the occasion, but do not want to go the classic orange and black route? Well, you don’t have to…think more in terms of texture, theme, and spook!

Boo!

Eclectic arrangements

Today’s word is eclectic. Mixing and matching textures and pieces that make statements and work together in purposeful harmony. Taxidermy, beautiful floral fabrics, bold glass, and outrageous lighting? Why not! Scale and placement are the rules to remember, and everything else, well, that’s left to your imagination!

Also of note…the Uncommon Objects 2013 calendars are here! Exclusive to our shop at 1512 South Congress Ave, the calendars feature beautiful collage work, featuring images from the shop. They are professionally bound, and are a hand-numbered limited edition.

Thanks for stopping by and until next time…

I’m Dreaming of a White Summer

One of the most anticipated, and adored, projects we take on at the shop is the creating of new displays. Getting to stretch our design muscles, and bring together ideas, moods, and purposes to create an atmosphere is such a joy.

The common theme running through our front windows and behind the counter display is white. Well, not just white, but shades of sunbleached cream, eggshell, ivory, white, and all inbetween. Summer neutrals. By concentrating on textures, layering, material, and scale, the eye avoids boredom and things are kept fresh and on point.
